If you need a quick fix-it solution to being overweight, you will not find it.  This is just not the way the body works. You need to understand the process your body goes through to formulate a diet for yourself.  Reading tips, buying books, going to the gym, trying out fad diets and slimming pills will not do you any good if you don’t have the motivation in you.  Experts write pages and pages but what is the point if you can’t follow the diet steps.  Chose a plan you can stick to, don’t just copy your friend; what works for others might not work for you.  The best way to lose weight is not in how to lose weight fast, but rather on how to lose weight permanently and that comes with a lifestyle change and commitment.   Your aim should basically be to raise your metabolism, the more muscle you have the higher your resting metabolic rate will be, and the higher the RMR, the more calories you will burn.
